Embellished, Lace Dress, Layering, oversized menswear shirt, Sweatshit, White button up Shirt

DSC01650

This is one of my new favorite trends, Sweatshirts!  I have a feeling I’ll be living in this one.  It’s from Target (on clearance) and I bought a large because I want a slouchy look.  I’ve already worn it 3 times in 2 weeks.  Once with skinny legging jeans and a chambray shirt, once with a blush pink long pleated sheer skirt and Keds and now with this lace dress (it’s actually a dress from Kohl’s), a white button up shirt (TJ Maxx) and these comfy driving flats. Later that night I changed into my leopard flats for book club.  That looked cute too.  If you don’t have a slouchy sweatshirt for fall… get one!

Always Skinny, Casual, Destructed, Gap, J.Crew Painter's Tee, jeans, Leopard Shoes

After a gorgeous weekend, the chill is back in the air this morning.  This is a more typical look for me.. jeans with layers, hair up in a messy bun (if you can call it that).  These jeans are among my favorites, Gap, 1969 Always Skinny. The shirt is J.Crew (thanks, Kristen..still love it!) It is of course, no longer available, but I like this one too. I’ve owned this sleeveless wrap sweater for 3 years and still get a ton of use out of it.  I love the collar and the closure on the side and anyone who knows me knows that I am all about defining your waist. It has just the right amount of pull to cinch.  It’s a TJMaxx purchase, so you know it’s a rare find.  And as always, my fav leopard flats (H&M.. similar here).

Black Skinnies, Casual, Chambray Shirt, Cropped Sweater, Leopard Shoes, Skinny Cargo Pants, Statement Necklace

DSC01541Fall is definitely in the air.  These are some of my fall staples.  Skinnies (cargo, Target, old), leopard flats (H&M old), chambray shirt (Kohl’s old).  I added this cropped sweater (so old) since I’ve been seeing them around, I thought I’d give it a try. I also added a statement necklace (Kohls) for a little sparkle.  Sorry pics are so bad.  Still working on these camera settings.

I run.  Nothing too crazy — I’m up to about 6 songs on a good morning (most people can tell you how far or how long they run, I measure in number of songs).  I am an early morning runner.  I like to get out before my family’s day starts.  It is the only guilt free time I have.  No one needs me and there is nothing else I should be doing.  I am constantly on the hunt for new songs to motivate me.  I listen to more pop than anything else, but occasionally discover a non-top 40 song.  A lot of times the new songs to me are old songs for my friends, but you never know.  Maybe you are looking for something new to add to your playlist.  I plan to make this part of the blog a series.  I’ll add songs as I find them.  I’ll take suggestions too.  I will always take suggestions.  Most of these are old, a couple are newer, but I rarely skip over them.

My Still Love Playlist:

  1. Girlfriend, Avril Lavigne (bpm 164)
  2. Operator (a girl like me), Shiloh (bpm 160)
  3. Runaway Baby, Bruno Mars (bpm 164)
  4. Beautiful Soul, Jesse McCartney (nice easy pace) (bpm 119)
  5. I’m Free, Kenny Loggins (bpm 160)
  6. I do Not Hook Up, Kelly Clakson (bpm 144)
  7. Stutter, Mariana’s Trench (bpm 120)
  8. Check Yes Juliet, We The Kings (bpm 167)
  9. You found me, The Fray (bpm 152)
  10. This is How a Heart Breaks, Rob Thomas (bpm 140)

Casual, drawstring pants, Long Necklace, White Tank

DSC01297

This Friday I took the kids to the waterfront after school. I had hoped to take them on a boat ride, but came to find out that the water taxi’s website was inaccurate.  No rides on Fridays. The local children’s museum was there.  So the kids built with the large foam blocks and had a ball!  To our surprise we ran into 2 of M’s cousins and one of them was waiting for a friend and asked us to go sailing with them.  My kids had never been sailing so why not!  It was a beautiful night.  I love an unexpected adventure!  This was a super comfy outfit.  White tank  .. I almost always layer with tanks from Express.  And the pants are Jennifer Lopez Collection (no longer available).  I got them on clearance from Kohl’s last year, they were long, so I had them shortened.  I feel like if my ankles are showing it gives me more height?  Less bulk?  Not sure what, but shorter was definitely better with these billowy drawstrings.

This is what I wore to the BooHoo Breakfast.  I love the blue, I love the Ikat.  Originally, I wanted to buy this dress for my friend.  So as I am trying it on in the store, checking the fit and size on myself so I can get the right size for her.  I look up and who do I see?  Jennifer! I asked her if she liked it, she said yes.  When I said “good, I’m buying it for you for your birthday”, she said no, no not for her.  She’s crazy, right?  Oh well, her loss was my gain.  I ended up buying one for myself.  As a tribute to her, I wore it with the earrings she got me for my birthday.DSC01162 - Copy The halter top is my favorite.  I am slightly pear shaped and a halter top makes your shoulders look broader, which makes my bottom look smaller! Yay!! The dress  is from Marshalls, But here it is at Boscov’s.  The earrings are from a boutique, but made by Karol Kirberger.

Chalkboard fonts, Chlakboard Sign, DIY, easel, Sidewalk Chalk

DSC00994

So I chaired the BooHoo WooHoo Breakfast for our elementary school this year.  We needed a welcome sign to put at the banquet hall.  After a few ideas I settled on doing a chalkboard sign using my daughter’s art easel.  I started by finding the right fonts.  I used Channel, Bergamot Ornament, KG ten Thousand Reasons, Grutch Shaded, Sketch Block and Digs My Heart.

DSC00983

After sizing them a bunch of times, I got it right and cut and taped it so it would fit properly on the chalkboard.  I think this was the hardest part!DSC00987

Then I rubbed chalk on the back of the paper, paying special attention to the areas directly behind lettering.

DSC00985

When I finished, I taped it back to the chalkboard and traced (pressing relatively hard) the outline of each letter.  This will leave an impression on the board.  It’s faint but it’s all you’ll need.

I used sidewalk chalk because I wanted color.  Dip the end of the chalk into a cup of water and start tracing and filling in the letters.

Clean up any residual chalk with a paintbrush.  And Voila!  Not bad, right?

belt, Casual, Necklace, Skirt, White Tee

DSC01096

School has started and life is getting back to normal so there’s no better time to post my first outfit. I had to be at the school to greet new Kindergarten parents as they met their teachers for the first time and dropped off supplies. When it comes to clothes, I am the kind of person who buys what she loves and only what she loves and I save almost everything (much to my hubby’s dismay). So I tend to take things that are old and rework them as they come back into style. So this skirt and belt are over 10 years old. Skirt is J. Crew and the belt I found at a boutique on Main Street. I love my white V-neck tees. I have at least 3 of them and I wear them often. They are all from Walmart; Ocean Pacific (2yrs ago) and Faded Glory (this past summer). I am not particular about brand names, only that they fit well. I bought larges, which as a rule, is not my size. But the other sizes did not fit right, so I went bigger and they were just what I wanted. Shoulders and chest have to be right. The necklace is from Kohl’s and I got that this past spring, but you can find them almost anywhere these days. The necklace length was shorter than what I wanted so I added a bracelet (on clearance at Target) to the end which gave it the length I was looking for. And flip-flops are my summer staple. They add casual comfort to everything. These are Lands End.

Now is as good a time as any!

I’ve been talking about starting a blog for almost a year now. I’ve been doing my research, asking questions, taking pictures and thinking about all the details, but sometimes you just have to dive in. So here it is. I am diving in. This blog is going to be about things that are clearly me. From style to home life, and I guess anything else that evolves is fair game. I am not fancy.  I rarely wear heels. But I try to wear things that are a little different from what everyone else is wearing.  Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail miserably. But I try everyday. I hope you see things here that give you ideas on how to re-work the things you already own or inspire you to try something new.  Whatever it is, make it clearly yours.
