DIY gift tags, Recycled Holiday Cards

image

Last year’s holiday cards become this year’s gift tags.  Save the cards in your holiday storage totes, so when you unpack for the next year they are right there remininding you that you have gift tags! Cut out the image that you like, hole punch and attach!  These are cookies and dish towels for 2 of my sister-in-laws. Let the gifting begin!

Blush sweater, Gap, Jean Leggings, Lace Layering, Ove the Knee Suede Boots, Polka Dot Sweater, Utility Jacket

DSC02747I read somewhere this week that trending colors this year include Navy and Blush.  I love Navy.  So much better than black as a neutral.  And blush is a color that I buy for myself because it looks good with my skin tone, so, I happen to already have some in my closet.  As usual, a simple comment or photo sent me digging through what I already own.  Today was chilly, but not too cold, so I layered a sleeveless lace top under my blush polka dot sweater, which is short enough so you can actually see the lace top (both 2013 TJ Maxx).  More pattern, more texture.  My jeans are actually Legging Jeans from Gap, these are a little different wash from mine but the same fit.  They’re great after one or 2 wears and perfect to go inside boots.  The boots are my new favorites, over the knee, Chinese Laundry.  The scarf is an old Banana Republic find.. I think it was actually a sarong.  It is a great neutral color so I have always used it as a wrap (early in it’s life–Y2Kish or a scarf–recent years).  My Utility Jacket is another TJ Maxx find (sashimi-similar here), It’s really light so I layer with it all the time.  I wear it over sweaters, fleece jackets and vests.

Holiday Manicure, Holiday Nails, Holiday Sparkle, Revlon Top Speed Polish, Sephora by Opi, Sheer Ivory Polish, Spark-tacular Top Coat

DSC02732This week’s mani has a little summer throwback.  I loved this ivory polish this summer.  I saw a lot of white polish, but white just wasn’t right for my skin tone, so I searched for Ivory.  If you know me, you know I really do search for the perfect anything, and this polish was no different.  Finally, I found this one Revlon Top Speed in Sheer Ivory.  Sparkle is thanks for this find, Sephora by Opi in Spark-tacular Top Coat.  It’s perfect for the holidays!.. Gold, Silver, Green, Red and Fushia all in one bottle!

Cookie Decorating with Kids, Sprinkles

When your kids help you decorate cookies do you have piles of sprinkles that look like this?

  DSC02726

My kids love to help me decorate cookies.  They always have, but those holes on the sprinkles container are HUGE!  So when they were really little I came up with the idea to put tape over most of the holes in the top and voila, less mess cookie decorating!

DSC02727Also, I have them decorate over a lipped cookie sheet and then we collect all those fall off sprinkles and put them in an empty container to reuse!

Big Pearl Earrings, Layering Dress Shirt, over the knee boots, Sleeveless, sweater dress

This outfit is inspired by a little Dr. Mindy Lahiri and a little by Gwen Stefani.  I love how Mindy wears these adorable outfits on her show. She layers, mixes prints and boldly wears tight dresses in an amazing way!  If you haven’t seen The Mindy Project, check out her style here.  Just love her.  Then I saw an episode of The Voice with Gwen in this adorable (no doubt, LAMB, pun intended) pantsuit with a white collar and it got me thinking about my own closet.  Time to dig out the white dress shirts.  I bought this sweater dress at Marshall’s for $30 (sorry, can’t find a shopping link).  I love sweater dresses and knew I could layer this one.  It is a little snugger than I am usually comfortable with, but with the bone colored patent belt (Target), I thought it looked cute.  The shirt is an old shirt, but what I like about this one are the french cuffs.  Black tights and my new (early Christmas present) over the knee boots!  Which is my favorite part of the whole outfit.  I have been watching Olivia Palermo (love this blog) walk around New York City for in a pair of gorgeous boots for over a year now.  Hers are high heeled and tall.  More thigh high than over the knee. I needed to steal that look.. but no heels for me and my lifestyle and find ones that were as high as hers for an affordable price is nearly impossible.  What I did find were these! They are by Chinese Laundry and I love them (on a side note, now O.P. is wearing a pair exactly like them…yay!)  The earrings are also a change for me –large pearls (faux, of course).  I saw this pair on another favorite blog, Hello Fashion, and it inspired me to buy these from Target.

Christmas Wish list ideas, kraft paper project, Metallic Sharpies

imageMy kids are in mode!  The toy catalogs are in and higlighted to the max!  I need to corral all of this wish listing.  So I came up with this idea so they have a place where they can write down exactly what they want.  When the phone calls come in asking what the kids want for Christmas, I will be prepared.

Using kraft wrapping paper I bought at Ollie’s sometime this summer, I freehand drew the shape I liked and cut.  Then I did the lettering the same way I did it for the chalkboard project.  The fonts I used are La Chatte a Maman (on the left) and King’s Last Quest. I chose the font size based on what would fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.  I used white chalk to color the back of the sheet, traced the letters and followed the pattern with gold and copper sharpies.  I decided to tape a seperate sheet of paper so I can reused the kraft paper part every year.  Each list is  30″ x 17″ and I stuck it to the wall with ticky tac (love this stuff). This definitely is a low budget project, but I really like the idea.  I know some of you out there can take it to the next level!  I’d love to see what you come up with!

Colorstay Fall Mood, Colorstay Gel Envy, Holiday Nail Ideas, Metallic Copper Nail Polish, Natural Nails, Sally Hansen Shell We Dance

DSC02686So, it is on!  The holiday season here and I am going to try to accomplish as much as possible in the next week.  That primarily means shopping and decorating. And as if that were not enough, how about a hockey tournament?  It will be a busy week to say the least, so there will be no time for nail polish touch-ups.  My solution to a week like this is natural looking nails.  For the last couple of years (since my all time fav Revlon Colorstay Sheer Bliss was discontinued) I have used Sally Hanson Shell We Dance.  It is a sheer pink that is the perfect color for natural looking nails and shows little to no wear and tear during a hectic week.  Since it is the holidays, I jazzed it up with a little polka dotted accent nail using Revlon Colorstay Fall Mood (which is basically a metallic copper) and a toothpick. Top coated with 2 coats of Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Top Coat.

Camo skinny, Embellished, Houndstooth Scarf, oversized menswear shirt, Sweatshirt

If you live where there is snow, you know exactly what I mean.  It’s really all you hope for when it snows.  And this day we had it!  Again I have re-mixed and re-used.  The jean shirt (which is what they called it when I bought it, now should I call it chambray?) is a throwback to, gosh, maybe college?  My mid-20’s at the latest.  But since oversized menswear is in.. I took the chance.  I think it is actually a men’s shirt.  Along with my staple skinnies in camouflage (Gap seen here) and this embellished Mossimo sweatshirt (seen here).  Houndstooth scarf is Coach (gift), hat is Target (simple cable knit in ivory), mittens are also Target and boots are Patagonia Lugano style (old).

Business Crad Magnets, DIY Photo Magnet, Great ideas for Magnets, Refrigerator Gallery Wall, School Photos, Team Photos

DSC02627I have been using Business Card Magnets for years!  I started buying them for their intended use, to put my business card on them for customers.  Now I use them for so much more! I have mini gallery walls on my fridge and the door going into the garage.  I’ve also used it on bumper stickers that I didn’t want stuck and this past vacation, when I couldn’t find a souvenir I liked, I bought a patch of the Turks and Caicos flag for less than $5 and made it into a magnet. They are so useful, I recommend picking up a pack and creating your own refrigerator gallery wall!

Chambray Shirt, So Clothing, Willow and Clay Aztec Skirt

DSC02633

This is my new favorite skirt.  I have worn it 3 times in the 2 weeks since I’ve bought it.  Of course it’s a TJ Maxx classic find.  I went in looking for a ski jacket and on my way to the register this beauty caught my eye just hanging out at the end of a rack.  I just grabbed it thinking eh, if it doesn’t work, I’ll return it.  No Biggie.  But I LOVE it.  It’s Willow and Clay and if you want to buy it.. this is a medium.  It’s a little loose in the waist but good in the hips. Today I’m wearing it with black tights (Merona) and a chambray shirt (Kohl’s, So, old).  No shoes, because I’m hosting Thanksgiving and who needs shoes when your the host!

Hope your Thanksgiving was filled with love!
