It’s time for the Olympics.  I love the Olympics.  I have amazing fond memories of watching the Summer Olympics with friends in the neighborhood.  Staying up way past bedtime to watch while our parents chatted on the front porch.

For that reason, and the fact that I stumbled upon 4th of July clearence at JoAnn’s, G and I tackled this craft with her friend yesterday.

It was so simple.  Start with  paper plates, dessert size (approx 6 3/4 inches).  Cut around the the center of the plate where it starts to curve up.  You’ll want to cut through the side of the plate as well, so you can intertwine the rings later.

Pull out your paint-  We used acrylic since it’s going to be outside for the duration of the Olympics, it should be relatively water proof. Yellow, Blue, Green, Red and Black.  We  painted the both sides of the plate.  The back of the plate is the side that we decided would face out.  The paint coverage was better since it doesn’t have that coating making it hard for the paint to stick.

This is the banner that originally inspired me — 50% off at JoAnn’s ($7)

After the rings were dry, we added glitter glue to our rings for a little more pizzazz.  Then we taped the the rings together in the proper order paying special attention to the over under weaving of each color by looking at the rings on Wikipedia.

After tying the rings to the banner using twine,  I hung it by extending the length of the banner with additional twine and wrapping and cinching it under the vinyl wrap covering the pillars on our porch.

Ta Da!

I hope you enjoy the Rio 2016 Olympics with your family as much as we will.

Holiday Manicure, Milani Vanilla Almond, Nude Nails, OPI Pop The Cork

DSC02896

It is Christmas week and I need more sparkle!  Finding the perfect nude color polish is like finding the perfect nude shoe or foundation, I would guess.  You just have to keep looking until you get the right shade.  My perfect shade is Milani Vanilla Almond.  The sparkle is courtesy of OPI, Pop the Cork.  I covered the accent nail completely with the OPI polish, but only did the tips of the other nails.  Sparkle on!

Buffalo Style, casual party outfit, flare jeans, Lace Layering, today's outfit, trouser pants

Today’s outfit was for both kiddos holiday parties at school.  I ran errands in between.  So much to do!  I always try to dress up a little for their parties.  It makes them feel like it’s a special day…and it is.  This is what shook out of my closet today. The newest thing is the purse.  I bought it last year after being inspired by this bag and this blog.  I love skinny jeans, but I love the way these flare fit too.  They are trouser jeans from Gap — seriously at least 10 years old.  Similar here and here The lace blouse has been seen before here and is a TJ Maxx find last year (also seen here).  If you’re looking for one, make sure you look for one that has the scalloped hem. I wear it alone or with layers it adds so much more than a straight hem.  The sweater is from BCBGMaxazaria from about 7 years ago.  I wear it all the time in the winter.  It’s surprisingly warm.  The bracelet is Anne Klein (bought it from my neighbor at her yard sale–total find). Boots are suede knee highs, and heels!  So rare for me. 🙂

DIY gift tags, Recycled Holiday Cards

image

Last year’s holiday cards become this year’s gift tags.  Save the cards in your holiday storage totes, so when you unpack for the next year they are right there remininding you that you have gift tags! Cut out the image that you like, hole punch and attach!  These are cookies and dish towels for 2 of my sister-in-laws. Let the gifting begin!

Cookie Decorating with Kids, Sprinkles

When your kids help you decorate cookies do you have piles of sprinkles that look like this?

  DSC02726

My kids love to help me decorate cookies.  They always have, but those holes on the sprinkles container are HUGE!  So when they were really little I came up with the idea to put tape over most of the holes in the top and voila, less mess cookie decorating!

DSC02727Also, I have them decorate over a lipped cookie sheet and then we collect all those fall off sprinkles and put them in an empty container to reuse!

Christmas Wish list ideas, kraft paper project, Metallic Sharpies

imageMy kids are in mode!  The toy catalogs are in and higlighted to the max!  I need to corral all of this wish listing.  So I came up with this idea so they have a place where they can write down exactly what they want.  When the phone calls come in asking what the kids want for Christmas, I will be prepared.

Using kraft wrapping paper I bought at Ollie’s sometime this summer, I freehand drew the shape I liked and cut.  Then I did the lettering the same way I did it for the chalkboard project.  The fonts I used are La Chatte a Maman (on the left) and King’s Last Quest. I chose the font size based on what would fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.  I used white chalk to color the back of the sheet, traced the letters and followed the pattern with gold and copper sharpies.  I decided to tape a seperate sheet of paper so I can reused the kraft paper part every year.  Each list is  30″ x 17″ and I stuck it to the wall with ticky tac (love this stuff). This definitely is a low budget project, but I really like the idea.  I know some of you out there can take it to the next level!  I’d love to see what you come up with!
