Blanket Scarf, Denim Dress, Over the Knee Suede Boots, Plaid Blazer, Thrift Store Fashion, Winter Layers

DSC03084DSC03079

I can read your mind.  More Plaid?  YES!  and this is not the end of it either! This blazer was a fabulous thrift store find.  I could not resist.  I thought it would be great with lots of things and for the price if I wore it twice, I’d be happy.  I also thought I’d wear it sometime over the holidays but that didn’t happen so I am debuting it today.  I layered it with a a small blanket scarf inspired by photos I’ve seen recently (I can’t remember where) and a belt.  My denim dress (seen here with the same belt) from Kohl’s is over a light heather grey long sleeved shirt.  I finished the look with black tights and suede over the knee boots (seen here, here, here and here), which are not warm at all but look so good with the outfit.

Plaid Blazer / Thrift Store find, Blanket Scarf / old, Denim Dress / Kohl’s (no longer available, but a simple google search shows tons of options), Over the Knee boots / Chinese Laundry

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, Healthy Hair, Managable Curls, Managable Hair, Shiny Hair, split ends help

 DSC03077

There are 3 things that people ask me about on a semi regular basis and my hair routine is number 2 on the list.  If you are looking for less frizz or more shine you need to read this post!  I am a simple girl.  I rarely spend big money on beauty products.  Special trips to the cosmetic counter or other specialty beauty shops is unusual.  Today I’m going to talk about one of my favorite hair solutions.  My hair is straight and fine.  But there is a lot of it and it has smooth cuticles, so I don’t use any shine serums or anything like that because it just weighs my hair down.  I do, however, deep condition whenever I wash my hair (which is every 2-3 days).

My secret weapon is $3.00 a bottle of Aussie 3-minute miracle! They have different versions now, and Moist is the one I use. I started using it again, after many years, when I lightened my hair in ombre fashion.  I had lost my natural shine and texture and I wanted it back! And it worked wonders! Friends started asking me about my routine.  Straight, curly, wavy, coarse, thick, all hair types have tried it and they agree that it works great!  It’s so inexpensive, if you haven’t already re-discovered this product, try it!

This is the routine and I think the routine has to be right, friends who haven’t have success with it have heard me retell the steps say “Oh, I’m doing it wrong!”…so follow the steps.

  • The first thing I do, before anything in the shower, is wash my hair.  The shampoo doesn’t matter.  What ever you like.  Right now I’m using EverPure Sulfate Free (I recently read this post from another blogger that I like and she loves it so maybe I stumbled on something). I wash my roots ONLY.  Hairline too, just to wash the oil away.
  • Then I use the 3 Minute Miracle basically from my ears down.  My hair is longer, so I probably use about the size of a quarter.  I take my hair into a low pony and work the conditioner through.  My hair tends to get tangles at the nape of my neck so I start there.
  • Then I take a wide toothed comb and comb it through and finally clip it up using an old claw clip.
  • After my hair is up, I do everything else and rinse my hair at the very end.  Try it.  Your hair will be bouncy and healthy looking.  I believe it.  I do.

P.S.   3-minute Miracle is a shower multi-tasker!  Try it for shaving. A little goes along way!

Asos Oversized Blanket Scarf, Camoflage Skinnies, Navy, Slouchy Sweatshirt

DSC03065

This is the scarf that started it all.  Well, not exactly this one, but one very similar.  The one I fell in love with was sold out.  So, I happened upon this one (somehow I cannot get the link to work — search Oversized Square Scarf In Check at ASOS.com) and it is truly a blanket scarf.  It is so big I half wonder if it isn’t actually a blanket and they decided to jump on the Blanket Scarf bandwagon and market it as a scarf.  Worn with my cargo skinnies (seen here with the boots and here), snow boots (not particularly fashionable, but necessary) and a basic crewneck navy sweatshirt I bought in menswear, half tucked.  So cozy, I didn’t feel the need for a coat on this day.

Beanie, Black Suede Booties, Cargo Skinnies, Gap, Olivia Palermo, Slouchy Hat, V neck t-shirt, Winter Coat

DSC03052

Brrr…. good thing I found this coat last week!  It’s all I’ve worn since then!  I wandered into gap and they were having an additional 60% off sale. I had just seen these pics of Olivia Palermo, so after I tried it on, I was inspired and bought it. The slouchy hat is new too (cute, right?)– American Eagle has a huge selection of hats on sale right now. I might have to go back for more.  I love my hats!  The rest of the outfit is basic.  My go to V-neck tee (also seen here), black cargo pants (seen here), suede booties (seen here and here).

Sorry for all the mirror selfies, but I am trying to post outfits as often as I can.  I hope to get back outside to take some pics soon.  I just need a little break in the weather. 🙂

American Eagle, Black Suede Booties, Blanket Scarf, Embellished Sweatshirt, Front Seamed Leggings, Oversized Demin Shirt

DSC03019

I am in love with these blanket scarves.  I now have 2 of them and plan to be wearing them all winter and into the spring.  I spotted this one at American Eagle while shopping for my niece. Today we took the kids slot car racing at a local hobby shop and out to dinner after at a local dive that serves AMAZING burgers. This oversized denim shirt and sweatshirt combo is one I’ve worn before (here), but it’s perfect for skinnies and leggings and today I am definitely feeling comfy leggings (need room for that burger!). These leggings were a gamble find at Walmart. The material is thick and I like the front seaming.  I went with booties for a more casual look.

Knit Skirt, Lands' End, Over the Knee Suede Boots, Stewart Plaid

DSC03001

Always rushing these last 2 weeks.  Took a quick pic before leaving this day for Christmas with my brother’s family.  Same plaid shirt from earlier this week (I love it so much) with a knit skirt I found at TJ Maxx, black tights, over the knee suede boots and this gem of a belt I think I may have hijacked from my mother 30 years ago.

This skirt has gotten some major wear since I bought it.  It is just adorable and I love the detail just below the waist and the flutter at the bottom.  It makes me look more hippy than I am, but it’s worth it.

Black Corduroys, casual outfit, Flannel Shirt, Lands' End, Over the Knee Suede Boots, Stewart Plaid

How was your Holiday?  Mine was exhausting!  As seen by my face in the pictures… should have worn sunglasses.  I am trying harder to post more outfits so please focus on the outfit…not the overtired looking gal wearing the outfit.  I’ve got a couple more to share from the last week of celebrations but today’s is casual for taking the kids bowling with some friends.  I love my new plaid shirt.  It’s in the Stewart Plaid I’ve been drooling over since the Lands End catalog came out. Black cords/Converse (Target), Boots, over the knee Suede/Chinese Laundry, Bag/Steve Madden, Denim Jacket/H&M (sooooo old), Scarf/? but have you noticed that scarves are being worn long like this now?  Take note.

Holiday Manicure, Milani Vanilla Almond, Nude Nails, OPI Pop The Cork

DSC02896

It is Christmas week and I need more sparkle!  Finding the perfect nude color polish is like finding the perfect nude shoe or foundation, I would guess.  You just have to keep looking until you get the right shade.  My perfect shade is Milani Vanilla Almond.  The sparkle is courtesy of OPI, Pop the Cork.  I covered the accent nail completely with the OPI polish, but only did the tips of the other nails.  Sparkle on!

Express Best Loved Cami, J.Crew Stetement Necklace, Lauren Conrad Jeans, leopard, Leopard and navy, Navy corduroy, over the knee boots, oversized menswear shirt, Steve Madden Bag

DSC02906DSC02907DSC02923DSC02913Are you crazy busy right now?  So are we!  And today is no exception.  We went to see a play with the kids, the new skating rink downtown (can’t wait to skate on it over break!) and then off to a house party!  Too busy to change clothes, so I had to pick something that would work for all 3 events.  I started with the blue skinny cords (similar here).  Mine are by Lauren Conrad from Kohls.  I’ve said it before, but her jeans fit me so well.  They are more generous in the hips and thighs and the waist doesn’t gap for me. The shirt is my oversized menswear shirt (also seen here and here and here).  I tucked in the front only to show a bit of waist and the way the shirt blouses it hides any muffin top that might sneak out.  The shirt is a little sheer so I have layered it with my fav cami from Express (ooohh.. they’re on sale. I might have to restock), which also helps to smooth out any middle imperfections.  If you want to add these camis to your wardrobe, and want to know about sizing…I wear a medium comfortably. I would also say that they are better after the first washing.  Ok, moving on…this look needed some accessories!  The leopard belt (Target) won out over a skinny patent leather, and I love this necklace (J.Crew, last Christmas, similar here). It’s got many different colors that I can wear it with just about anything. There are so many cool statement necklaces out there. Check out Baublebar.com if you’re looking to add to your collection. Boots are Chinese Laundry (also seen here and here). Bag is Steve Madden (also seen here). Watch is Target.

Buffalo Style, casual party outfit, flare jeans, Lace Layering, today's outfit, trouser pants

DSC02868

Today’s outfit was for both kiddos holiday parties at school.  I ran errands in between.  So much to do!  I always try to dress up a little for their parties.  It makes them feel like it’s a special day…and it is.  This is what shook out of my closet today. The newest thing is the purse.  I bought it last year after being inspired by this bag and this blog.  I love skinny jeans, but I love the way these flare fit too.  They are trouser jeans from Gap — seriously at least 10 years old.  Similar here and here The lace blouse has been seen before here and is a TJ Maxx find last year (also seen here).  If you’re looking for one, make sure you look for one that has the scalloped hem. I wear it alone or with layers it adds so much more than a straight hem.  The sweater is from BCBGMaxazaria from about 7 years ago.  I wear it all the time in the winter.  It’s surprisingly warm.  The bracelet is Anne Klein (bought it from my neighbor at her yard sale–total find). Boots are suede knee highs, and heels!  So rare for me. 🙂
