Polka Dot Denim DSC03896Banana Republic 3 tone sweatshirt

What a gorgeous day!  We are back from vacation and were lucky enough to come back to nice weather.. which sadly, rarely happens.  I was reading one of my favorite blogs and she was talking about getting a back to the basics of her blog and just post about getting dressed everyday.  So I am taking inspiration from that and I hope to keep posting outfits, not matter how simple.

Today was sunny but chilly.  This pair of polka dot denim is a fun spring favorite.  They are Lauren Conrad fro Kohl’s.  The Report slip-ons (also seen here) are from this past fall, TJ Maxx.  The sweatshirt was given to me by a friend.  She cleans out her closet often (complete opposite of me) and I sometimes reap the benefits.  I’ve had the olive green field jacket for at least 3 years.  It’s super lightweight so it’s great for layering. Also a TJ Maxx buy.  I usually wear the sleeves rolled down, but after seeing this pic of Olivia, I thought I’d roll them up for a change.  This pair of Cat-eye sunnies are from Target — last summer

I just got this sweatshirt at Kohl’s for $10!  It’s Juicy Couture and just might be my new favorite!  I’ve seen some pics lately that have reminded me of theses jeans…J. Crew catalog and then I saw a pic on Pinterest that made me dig them out.  They are Lucky Brand and I was wearing them when I met my husband 12 1/2 years ago.  I have 2 pairs.  One is a size bigger than these, which I wear as more of a boyfriend fit.  I bought this scarf in clearance at JoAnn’s a few years ago.  It’s a light knit and goes perfect with these amazingly sequined lips! Flats are Steve Madden from DSW, 2 years ago. Earrings and shades are from Target (Spring 2015).  Lipstick is chubby stick from Cover Girl. Lipperfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Jam Twist (color 255).

I have missed my sweater dresses this winter.  It was so bitterly cold that a dress, of any kind, was hardly an option.  This day is still chilly, but so sunny, that it was really perfect weather for this dress.  I completed the look with an old leather jacket, suede shoes and my Grandmother’s earrings.  The dress is at least 2 years old (Marshall’s).  The coat is Target, maybe 7 years old/  Shoes are Ditto from DSW, last year.  Bag, Steve Madden (also seen here and here) and sunnies, new from Target.

DSC03597Wide legged denim is coming back. I saw this pic of Olivia Palermo and found inspiration.

While I don’t own any actual bell bottoms, I’ve got lots of wide legged/boot cuts that really resemble a bell bottom.  These are a pair that have never left my closet (also seen here with the same faux suede boots).  They are more of trouser pant.  They are GAP and of course they are really old — About 10 years.  The sleeveless sweater wrap is also old (also seen here), TJ Maxx.  T was in preschool, so 4 years ago at least.  Short sleeved T-neck is Target this past fall (also seen here).  If they have them again in 2015, I recommend getting one or 2.  The neck is snug but not too tight and oooohhh so soft.  The coat is Nine West (also seen here).  The clutch was a find!  I found it in a Savers store for $4.00.  It’s fabric quilted Navy (I’ve already explained my current obsession with Navy in my last outfit post) and it has a long chain strap, so I can wear it cross-body, or double it up and make it a shoulder strap.  But mostly I use it as a large clutch.  I’m finding a lot of bags that I am making into clutches.  I should do a post on that. 🙂  And I just did a major watch buy at Target.  They were $10 a piece.  I couldn’t resist.  Military style accessories are in this Spring.  It’s a men’s watch so I had to make some modifications so it would fit.  Nothing a pair of scissors and super glue can’t handle.

40 week Challenge, Organize 365, Organized Lunch Station, Organized Snacks

Maybe I am more organized than I thought.  I started this challenge over a month ago and it took me at least 2 weeks to get through the first challenge, corralling all the paper!  I had lots of hiding places.  Baskets and piles all over.  What I found?  A $100 gift certificate to the Adidas store that had been missing for sometime and the extra Entertainment book.  So that’s good news.  I haven’t dedicated much time to organizing my paper since, but at least now I know where to find all my paper things.

Week 2, 3 and 4 were already done at my house (a relief when I received the weekly emails). A calendar where everything is on it.  I cannot use a digital calendar, I have tried many times and they just don’t work for me.  We use the calendar that comes home for school.  It’s got all of the kids breaks and days off already on it and let’s face it, my life revolves around their schedule.  So Week 2…done.

Week 3 was organizing for lunches.

DSC03537Lunch DrawerDSC03536Top Snack ShelfDSC03535Bottom Snack Shelf

I did this 2 years ago and it works amazing.  All of my lunch specific containers are in one pull out drawer.  Snacks are organized in the pantry for easy grabbing in the morning. Top 2 pull outs are for snacks (mostly). When we redid our kitchen we put pull out shelves in every cupboard.  I then decided that the best use of those shelves was to add appropriate sized baskets to contain whatever was going to go in there.  I’ve got baskets for bread, plastic containers take up 2 shelves in my kitchen, kids drinkware, and the list goes on. It totally works!  I didn’t have to do anything to these shelves before I took the pictures, so I’d say it’s been a success!  A little tip, I use clothes pins to keep my snacks clipped, so I just keep them clipped to the basket so they are always there when I need one.

Week 4 was creating a donation station.  We’ve already got that in our laundry room.  It is not a perfectly organized station, but anything going out goes into a bag, one for clothes, one for other things (mostly toys).  When the bag is full, M takes it to Goodwill or a local clothes/blanket donation box.

Week 5 is going to be a killer.  I anticipate it will take me more than a couple of weeks to tackle this one.  The Laundry Room.  These are my before pictures. Don’t judge. A total disaster, right?  This is a catch all room, for donations, seasonal clothes bins that need to go to the basement, but somehow never quite make it. It’s got that slanted ceiling so it makes it tough to define storage on the walls, no room for cabinets and such so I think I will have to get creative.  Pinterest, here I come. Stay tuned to see how I survive this challenge.

Gap skinnies (seen here and here) are as neutral as blue jeans.  My shirt is J.Crew (seen here) and the waffle knit wrap is an old target purchase that I haven’t worn in a while, but I saw this blogger wearing one similar and it inspired me to dig it out.  Boots are Arturo Chang (seen here and here).  Knit hat is the navy version of this one.  I’m adding a little Navy to everything lately.  Just love it!  Coat is Nine West — Bought it at Tuesday Morning, of all places, or something like $25.00 2 years ago. My old olive coat was on it’s last legs when I ran across it. Fur collar is removable.  These new sunglasses are quickly becoming a staple!  And red lips… what do you think?

DSC03499DSC03500DSC03508DSC03504DSC03514DSC03515DSC03501

This is what I wore on March 17th.  You’ve to go green, Irish or not, right? I searched my closet and tried on multiple options but in the end this outfit was the victor!  I was volunteering at the school for Kindergarten Registration and you know what they say about 1st impressions, so I turned it up a notch.  Plus it was a slightly warmer day so a skirt seemed like a good idea considering it has been much, much to cold to wear anything but pants in the last 2 months!

I love this look because really, it doesn’t have to be just a St. Patty’s look.  Black top, black tights and a colored skirt looks so simply sharp to me.  Let’s start with the skirt, It’s a summer knit skirt and I usually wear it with a ribbed tank top and flip flops so it’s nice to see it finding a place in my winter wardrobe.  It is old — 3 years, maybe.  Marshall’s, of course.  The black turtleneck from Target (this past fall) is amazingly soft and I like that the sleeves aren’t quite short, makes it less casual. My denim jacket (also seen here) is ancient– 15 years old, at least.  It’s H&M and I remember when I bought it — Syracuse working my first publishing job. I have tried to replace it and made a valiant effort last year but to no avail.  None of the ones I found were right.  Mostly too long.  I like this one because it’s short, but not cropped.  I think a lighter washed one is in my future.  Stay tuned. Black tights, my Chinese Laundry over the knee suede boots (seen here and here and everywhere!) balance the look.  My ASOS blanket scarf (seen here, here and here)is the finishing touch because of the holiday and it is a bit chilly, so an extra layer never hurts.

Accessories!  Check out my new shades from Target. I love the thick bold tortoise shell frame.  I’d bet they’ll be my go to this spring. My that girl (click here to read my That Girl story) earrings look kind of Gaelic, don’t they?  Bag is Steve Madden and I bought it to imitate a Coach bag that I had to have but could never find. Belt is a  skinny patent from Target.

Have you added Mariana’s Trench to your playlist? Do it!  They remind me of Blink 182 with better vocal.  Kind of pop-rock-alternative?  Is that a genre?

Here are my new favorites for running..

  1. Perfect (BPM 106)
  2. Celebrity (BPM 164)
  3. Sing Sing (BPM 120)
  4. Cross My Heart (BPM 160)

DSC03471DSC03462DSC03468DSC03460DSC03463St Patrick’s Day Parade!  So many great memories of going when I was in my 20’s (for obvious reasons) and when the weather is agreeable, we’ve taken the kids.

This sweater is one from the great sweater buy at Marshall’s of 2015 (other sweaters are here, here and here).   I love the navy and green combo and have worn it many times since I bought it.  Plaid seemed appropriate for the day’s festivities so I’m once again wearing my fav blanket scarf from ASOS (also seen here).  Jeans are Leggings from GAP  (seen here and here).  The jacket is NEW!  I found it on clearance at Target last week.  Love it!  It’s fleece with nylon quilting.  Of course, now I can’t find it on their website, but it was $22 (similar here).  A “cannot pass up this deal” purchase (even hubby agreed with me on this one).  Boots are Hunter Original Tall in Green.  If you are thinking of getting a pair — now is the time.   When all this snow melts it is going to be one sloppy baseball/softball season!  The knit hat is cable knit, black with silver threads and who can resist a pom-pom on top?  I bought it at our local supermarket (go figure) in their seasonal section — clearance of course, $5.00.  So great I bought 5 of them (different colors) and G and I share. 🙂
